GREATER ST. LOUIS |
From what I observed, everyone seemed to have a good time at our recent Fall Sectional. The happy hour on Saturday was a great idea. Thanks to Sandy Bigg, Michael Sherberg and Kate Denner for putting it together and to everyone who contributed food. And, of course, congratulations to all winners and everyone who scored some master points.
Next is our Sectional January 15-17, 2027. We will continue to have a pair team event as the second session on Saturday. We will continue to allow folks to put together their teams but without a team, the director will set up a team for you. And, yes, there will be another happy hour!
PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2026
Jack Bryant and Tod Moses are coming down the wire in the battle for the Unit 143 Player of the Year Award. Jack has 104.39 points toward the award while Tod has 100.61. No other player in Unit 143 is in striking distance of these two fine players. Good luck to both.

Pair/Team Game
Why are we doing this?
--It increases your opportunity to win points!
--It offers an opportunity to team with new people.
--Players like it! It is very popular in other units.
--It's fun to try something new!
How does it work? Register as a team of four players (or come with a partner, and we will put you together with another pair to form a team). You will play pairs, just as you would for any pair event. (Matchpoint strategy is recommended.) For each board, you will receive two scores: your pair score (matchpoints) and team score (board-a-match). Whichever scoring method favors you the most will be used to set your Master point award.
Will hand records be available? Yes.
Will the total point awards available for ranking in the Open Pairs be reduced because of the opportunity to earn points from the team aspect? No, the points you earn for the Open Pair rankings will be just as high as they would be if there were no team component.
If you win the pairs ranking AND the team ranking, will you get bonus points for doing well in both? No, you are either going to earn points from your Pair ranking, or from the team's board a match totals, but not both. However, if you did not earn points in the pairs but you had some success with the team scoring, you will at least get to go home with something for your efforts.

CONDUCT and ETHICS Issues
Most of us want to play the game of duplicate bridge honestly. When you play against
an opponent you suspect is not playing in accordance with the Laws, or violating
the Code of Disciplinary Regulations, please file a Player Memo. This can be found by clicking the "Club Guidelines for Discipline" link under Unit 143 Governance.
You may
also privately text the game director, but making a public accusation is in itself a violation
of the CDR, so please be careful to report suspicious conduct properly.

Notice of ACBL Unit 143 Director Changes
New officers for the 2025-2026 year are: Mark Zellmer - President, Ken Eiger - Vice President, Steve Russell - Treasurer, and Janet Vontz - Secretary. New board members are AJ Gwin and Amy Whitaker bringing our board to a full 12 members.
