WELCOME TO UNIT 143 of
GREATER ST. LOUIS |
I hope and expect that all had a good time playing in the August Regional. Congratulations to all the winners of any event at the Regional and all who scored some master points.
Next up are two events: (1) September 19 and 20 at the Bridge Center is our intermediate/499er Sectional and (2) October 16-18 at the Bridge Center is our Fall Sectional. See links for further information.
Nominations for the Board of Unit 143 are now open. If an election is necessary, it will be held at 9:45 am on Saturday October 17 at the Bridge Center right before the 10 am Sectional event. In addition, at that same time, 9:45 am Saturday October 17, will be our Annual meeting.

Pair/Team Game
Why are we doing this?
--It increases your opportunity to win points!
--It offers an opportunity to team with new people.
--Players like it! It is very popular in other units.
--It's fun to try something new!
How does it work? You register as a pair to play, and then the Director will randomly assign you teammates--with one caveat: pairs with the most master points will not be allowed to play with other high-ranking pairs; the goal is to "level the team playing field" so that all teams stand a shot. As the Director is organizing the game, you will have a chance to sit down and meet the other pair who has been assigned to be on your team. Then, you will separate from your teammates and play pairs, just as you would in a regular Open Pairs event. At the conclusion of the event, the Director will calculate scores both ways: your pair's match point score, as well as your team's board-a-match score. Whichever method earns you the highest possible reward will be used to determine your masterpoint award for the event. While the Director is finalizing scores at the end, we hope players will take the opportunity to reconnect with their teammates to give high fives and chat.
Will hand records be available? Yes.
Will the total point awards available for ranking in the Open Pairs be reduced because of the opportunity to earn points from the team aspect? No, the points you earn for the Open Pair rankings will be just as high as they would be if there were no team component.
If you win the pairs ranking AND the team ranking, will you get bonus points for doing well in both? No, you are either going to earn points from your Pair ranking, or from the team's board a match totals, but not both. However, if you did not earn points in the pairs but you had some success with the team scoring, you will at least get to go home with something for your efforts.

CONDUCT and ETHICS Issues
Most of us want to play the game of duplicate bridge honestly. When you play against
an opponent you suspect is not playing in accordance with the Laws, or violating
the Code of Disciplinary Regulations, please file a Player Memo. This can be found by clicking the "Club Guidelines for Discipline" link under Unit 143 Governance.
You may
also privately text the game director, but making a public accusation is in itself a violation
of the CDR, so please be careful to report suspicious conduct properly.
